Kraft/Corrugated Paper Machine

Kraft/Corrugated Paper Machine

Kraft/Corrugated paper machine is the pulping and paper making machine used to make kraft paper/corrugated paper. Because the uses and manufacturing equipments of two types of papers are similar, they will be here introduced to you together.

Types and uses

Kraft paper is made from sulphate softwood pulp. The pulp is beaten and made on a long-mesh paper machine. Corrugated board is a paper board glued by liner paper and processed corrugated paper through corrugated rolls. It is generally divided into two types: single corrugated paper board and double corrugated paper board. Kraft paper is tough and inexpensive with good folding resistance and water resistance. Corrugated paper has the advantages of lightness and firmness, heavy load and pressure resistance, shock resistance and moisture resistance and low cost.

Kraft paper is mostly used for making shopping bags, envelopes, cement bags, etc. Corrugated paper also has many uses according to their respective paper layers:

  1. Single-faced corrugated board is generally used as a lining protective layer for commodity packaging or to make a lightweight card or pad to protect the goods from vibration or impact during storage.
  2. Three- layer or five-layer corrugated board is used to make the commodity packaging of the goods;
  3. Seven-layer or eleven-layer corrugated board is mainly used for making packaging boxes for mechanical and electrical goods such as furniture, motorcycles, and large household appliances.

Paper machine

Kraft/corrugated paper machine is designed for producing kraft paper or corrugated paper. It uses wood pulp board, waste paper, timber, bamboo, rice straw, bagasse, and other pulps to produce the paper at 50-300g/m2. The width of the paper ranges from 1092mm-3300mm. The design capacity is 10-150t/d. It comes in a variety of types, including the 1092type, 1575type, 1760type, 1880type, 2100type, 2400type, 2880type, 3200type,3600type,4200type and 4800type.

Now let’s get to know technical parameters of 3600 type kraft/corrugated paper machine

Grammage: 50-300g/m2

Working speed: 350m/min

Design speed: 500m/min

Capacity: 75-100t/d

Driving method: AC Variable frequency speed control, sectional drive

Machine type: Heavy square box type, with left and right machine available

Main structure:

         1. Headbox

This paper machine is supplied with an open headbox that consists of taper pipe, stepped diffuser, rectifier roll and box. The top and lower lips of the slice are made of stainless steel. The top lip can be adjusted both fully and locally.

       2. Forming section

The long mesh comes with a length of 20,000mm. With the exception of the bearing block, it is made of aluminum alloy, the frame is completely welded from structural steel, and externally covered by a layer of 1.5mm stainless steel. The section of the corrugated paper machine consists of breast roller, forming board, foils, suction boxes, vacuum couch roll, table roll, corrector, wire lightener and so on.

        3. Press section

The press section is comprised of a vacuum suction pickup roll and three suction rolls. The paper from this section comes with a dryness of 40% or more.

       4. Dryer section

The paper machine is equipped with 30φ and 1500mm dryer cylinders in the section. They are arranged in a 6+6+6+6+6 mode. In each set, there is a cooling cylinder driven by five dryer felts.

Pulp is a lignocellulosic fibrous material prepared by chemically or mechanically separating cellulose fibres from wood, fiber crops, waste paper, or rags. Many kinds of paper are made from wood with nothing else mixed into them. This includes newspapers, magazines and even toilet paper. Pulp is one of the most abundant raw materials.

A pulp mill is a manufacturing facility that converts wood chips or other plant fibre source into a thick fibre board which can be shipped to a paper mill for further processing. Pulp can be manufactured using mechanical, semi-chemical or fully chemical methods (kraft and sulfite processes). The finished product may be either bleached or non-bleached, depending on the customer requirements.

A paper machine (or paper-making machine) is an industrial machine which is used in the pulp and paper industry to create paper in large quantities at high speed. Modern paper-making machines are based on the principles of the Fourdrinier Machine, which uses a moving woven mesh to create a continuous paper web by filtering out the fibres held in a paper stock and producing a continuously moving wet mat of fibre. This is dried in the machine to produce a strong paper web.

The pulp produced up to this point in the process can be bleached to produce a white paper product. The chemicals used to bleach pulp have been a source of environmental concern, and recently the pulp industry has been using alternatives to chlorine, such as chlorine dioxide, oxygen, ozone and hydrogen peroxide.

Chemical pulp is produced by combining wood chips and chemicals in large vessels called digesters. There, heat and chemicals break down lignin, which binds cellulose fibres together, without seriously degrading the cellulose fibres. Chemical pulp is used for materials that need to be stronger or combined with mechanical pulps to give a product different characteristics. The kraft process is the dominant chemical pulping method, with the sulfite process second. Historically soda pulping was the first successful chemical pulping method.
