Specialty paper is a type of paper that has specific performance and high added value, and is suitable for special industry. Specialty paper machine is used to use different fibers to make a specialty paper with special functions. According to different uses or performances, specialty paper can be generally classified into various categories. In Europe, it includes electrical paper, absorbent laminated paper and furniture paper, filter paper, high-strength (super-strength) paper, release paper, image and photocopy paper, packaging paper, special printing paper, special high-grade paper, construction paper, cigarette paper and other functional papers. In China, according to different uses, it can be divided into printing paper, information paper, packaging paper, industrial paper, agriculture paper, daily paper, medicine and hygiene paper, military paper and other papers.


Basically, specialty paper is made of paper making equipments in production, and most of their equipments is not much different from other common papers. However, specialty paper has its own unique characteristics. This determines that some paper making equipments are only for specialty paper.

Dispersing equipment

1. High-shear hydraulic repulper

The high-shear hydraulic repulper is mainly used for sufficient dissociation and dispersion of high aspect ratio fibers, mineral fibers and man-made fibers

Forming machine and auxiliary forming equipments

1. Inclined screen forming machine

The forming machine for specialty paper is one of the most important technical equipments in production. It depends on the formation and related properties of the paper. It mainly includes cylinder screen, side wave screen and long/cylinder combined screen. Among them, the side wave screen is the most effective forming machine for long fiber pulp (such as hemp pulp). The cylinder screen is the most used type machine for specialty paper, and there are many types, such as movable curved plate, side flow type, suction type, counter flow type and so on. Long screen forming machine is not suitable for the paper that requires higher levels of formation or contains long fibers. Some machines are also produced in a combination of long and cylinder screen. The use of the inclined screen forming machine has already had a large-scale application, which has promoted the quality improvement of specialty paper significantly. The inclined screen forming machine of China has evolved from the initial single layer forming to multiple layers.

2. Cylinder screen forming machine

The advantages of cylinder screen forming machine are simple structure, small floor space, low investment, convenient operation and maintenance, flexible process changes and adaptability. The side flow type cylinder screen can overcome the problem of large longitudinal and side differences partially, but due to difficult control, it is difficult to be stabilized. The side flow type cylinder screen adopts the near screen direct feeding method.

3. Recoilless high frequency shake box

It is applied to the long screen paper machine to improve sheet uniformity and the longitudinal and transverse tension ratio. It is especially effective for long screen specialty paper machine. It overcomes low vibration frequency and ground reaction.

Sizing equipment

Specialty paper often has the requirement of larger sizing amount. The largest sizing amount even reaches 10-15g/m2 on one side. The surface sizing machine or film transfer sizing machine used on common paper machine is hard to ensure uniform and accurate sizing operation. Under this requirement, the method is to use the more primitive method of immersion sizing. Although it can meet the requirements of sizing amount, the paper sheet gets wet again and the drying load gets large. In addition, the paper web is prone to breakage, wrinkle and other failures and the paper feeding is difficult. Roll film transfer sizing is used, but when the amount of sizing is large, the transfer film is still not easy to be uniform, stable, affecting sizing uniformity and chromatic aberration seriously. China has invented air flow metering film transfer sizing machine now. It can solve the problem basically and the sizing quality is greatly improved.

Creped device

Creped device is used to produce a variety of crepe papers. Among them, scraper creped device is commonly used for common crepe paper. Tape creped device is specially designed for micro crepe, and it is used for stretch device with a very fine crepe and an elongation of 7%-12%, and is a special device for bag paper.

2. Stretch device

Stretch device is mainly composed of rubber felt, stretch cylinder, pressure bar, tensioner, corrector, felt grinding device, felt hanging device and silicon oil system. It is the heart for producing an stretch bag paper.

Heating device

1. High-temperature and high-pressure hot-roll calender

It can provide high temperature, high line pressure zone, and be used to improve certain properties of the paper such as strength, tightness, and mainly suitable for chemical fiber paper. High-temperature and high-pressure hot-roll calender is currently mainly used in small quantities for trimming in the production of chemical fiber paper.

2. Penetrating dryer

Penetrating dryer is not widely used in the paper-making industry. It is mainly used for the drying of household papers such as toilet paper and napkins. It is mainly used for specialty papers such as plate paper and tea bag paper. The paper has better properties of breathability, bulk, water absorption and strength. In addition to improving product performance, it has much higher drying efficiency than conventional dryers.

Pulp is a lignocellulosic fibrous material prepared by chemically or mechanically separating cellulose fibres from wood, fiber crops, waste paper, or rags. Many kinds of paper are made from wood with nothing else mixed into them. This includes newspapers, magazines and even toilet paper. Pulp is one of the most abundant raw materials.

A pulp mill is a manufacturing facility that converts wood chips or other plant fibre source into a thick fibre board which can be shipped to a paper mill for further processing. Pulp can be manufactured using mechanical, semi-chemical or fully chemical methods (kraft and sulfite processes). The finished product may be either bleached or non-bleached, depending on the customer requirements.

A paper machine (or paper-making machine) is an industrial machine which is used in the pulp and paper industry to create paper in large quantities at high speed. Modern paper-making machines are based on the principles of the Fourdrinier Machine, which uses a moving woven mesh to create a continuous paper web by filtering out the fibres held in a paper stock and producing a continuously moving wet mat of fibre. This is dried in the machine to produce a strong paper web.

The pulp produced up to this point in the process can be bleached to produce a white paper product. The chemicals used to bleach pulp have been a source of environmental concern, and recently the pulp industry has been using alternatives to chlorine, such as chlorine dioxide, oxygen, ozone and hydrogen peroxide.

Chemical pulp is produced by combining wood chips and chemicals in large vessels called digesters. There, heat and chemicals break down lignin, which binds cellulose fibres together, without seriously degrading the cellulose fibres. Chemical pulp is used for materials that need to be stronger or combined with mechanical pulps to give a product different characteristics. The kraft process is the dominant chemical pulping method, with the sulfite process second. Historically soda pulping was the first successful chemical pulping method.
